The Junior League of Tampa Celebrates the Upcoming Launch of the Diaper Bank
TAMPA, Fla. — The Junior League of Tampa (JLT) is launching its Diaper Bank project into a
stand-alone 501(c)3 and is celebrating this milestone on Saturday, September 28th at 10 am at
JLT Headquarters. At the event, the new board of directors will meet the public for the first time
and unveil the new organization’s name.
The new board of directors will include Kate Caldarelli, Katie Cappy, Sue Strand Courtright,
Laurel Waites, Sarah Costello, Christine Derr, Nicholas Glover, Meghan McGuire, Samantha
Nyakunzu, Jessica Stravino, Ginny Veit, Taylor West, and Lyndsey Siara, serving in the JLT
board seat.
“JLT has done a phenomenal job in getting the diaper bank to where it is today,” said Kate
Caldarelli, who will serve as the new board chair. “Now, the Diaper Bank has an opportunity to
continue to fulfill some basic needs in our community that will help families to thrive and
increase its ability to provide critical resources to some of our most vulnerable.”
Founded in 2018 by The Junior League of Tampa, the Diaper Bank distributes over 1 million
diapers in Hillsborough County annually. The Bank is currently run by JLT volunteers who
collect, purchase, and pack diapers for 16+ community partners. Community partners receive
diapers free of charge and are responsible for providing these diapers to families facing diaper
need in Hillsborough County. This partnership-based model allows the Diaper Bank to function
as an essential resource for organizations already supporting the diverse needs of families in
our community.
Launching the Diaper Bank into a stand-alone nonprofit is the next step, as it ensures the
sustainability of the Bank and invests in future growth. Launching the Diaper Bank also follows a
historical precedent of past JLT programs becoming independent organizations. The Diaper
Bank will begin operations as an independent nonprofit in January 2025.
